Center Line Library Internet Use Policy

Please Read as You Are Held Responsible for this Information

The Internet is a worldwide community with a highly diverse user population. It is the individual’s responsibility to use this resource wisely.

Users should be aware that not all the information available on the Internet is accurate, current, or complete. The Center Line Public Library neither monitors nor controls information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content, quality, accuracy or currency.

The Center Line Public Library assumes no responsibility for any damages, direct or indirect, arising from use by any person of the Library’s access to the Internet.

The Internet must be used in a manner that respects the rights of others.

Children and Internet Access

As with any other material obtained by children using the library, parents or legal guardians are responsible for the Internet information selected and/or accessed by their children.

In compliance with Public Act 212, the Center Line Public Library will provide filters on at least one Internet terminal, which shall be made available for persons under the age of 18. Persons under the age of 18 who wish to access the Internet shall be required to use this terminal.

Persons under the age of 18 who are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian may use unfiltered Internet terminals, provided that the parent or legal guardian sits or stands next to that person AT ALL TIMES.

At the Center Line Public Library, a filter is activated for the duration of use based on the age of the library card holder. Be sure to use your own library card, as anyone using someone else’s library card will be required to sign out and forfeit the computer terminal.

Two computer terminals are reserved for Guest users and are available for a maximum of one 60-minute session per day.

Printing

Prints may be made for .15 cents per page. Color copies are available for .50 cents per page. Printing from the Internet terminals will be routed to a printer in the staff area. Users may request and pay for their prints at the Circulation Desk. Patrons are responsible for paying for all copies printed, including pages with unwanted material.

Patrons should be aware that some material on the Internet and the World Wide Web is copyrighted. It is the user’s responsibility to be aware of the display of any notices concerning the copyright of information on the Web and to respect the copyright laws of the United States.

A 60-minute time limit per Internet session will be enforced if other patrons are waiting. All Internet sessions, including printing, will end promptly 10 minutes before the Library closes.

No more than two persons may use an Internet computer station at one time.

While Internet users are free to access whatever websites they choose, they may not send, receive or display graphics that are legally defined by State and/or Federal law as obscenity or child pornography. Violators may be subject to prosecution.

Staff members may request that patrons remove images or text from the computer screen if a complaint about those images or that text has been made by another patron. The Library staff reserves the right to end an Internet session at any time.

Security in an electronic environment cannot be guaranteed; therefore, all transactions, files, and communications should be considered public.

To better accommodate disabled patrons, patrons using the sit-down Internet terminal will be asked to use a different Internet terminal (if one is available) if a disabled patron is waiting to use the Internet.

Failure to comply with the terms of this Internet Policy may result in loss of privileges.
