COUNCIL MEETINGS

Council meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Council/Court Chambers of the Municipal Building.

ALL MEETINGS, whether Regular, Special or Workshop, even though they may not be televised, are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Residents of the community are invited to attend to view firsthand the operations and decision making process of the Council and to provide their input into the workings of the City.

The first meeting of each month and various special meetings are televised via both cable systems in Center Line and can be viewed on Comcast's CHANNEL 5 and Wide Open West's CHANNEL 10.

Typically, Workshop Council meetings are not televised; however, they are still Public Meetings, advertised as such, and are open to attendance by the public.

Elected officials, administration and staff, are here to serve your needs.

All decisions made by the City Council and/or the Administration, whether they directly affect each and every resident personally at the time they are made, are made with long-term goals for the welfare of the entire community in mind.

All decisions made by Council are made at public meetings; attendance at Council meetings is encouraged and input from the residents is welcome during the Citizen Communication portion of the meeting.

TREASURER'S OFFICE

A DROP BOX HAS BEEN INSTALLED BY THE FRONT DOOR OF CITY HALL. YOU MAY LEAVE YOUR BILLS WITH A CHECK OR MONEY ORDER (NO CASH, PLEASE) IN THE BOX.

The property tax bills that were mailed out at the end of June were incorrect. These bills contained the tax levies that belong on the “Winter” tax bills such as CO DRAIN DEBT, H.C.M.A. and S.M.A.R.T. Corrected bills were then mailed out July 8 that contained the CITY OPERATING, CITY P&F PENSION, and CITY DEBT levies. The City apologizes for the inconvenience.

Taxes are due July 1. August 31, is the last day for payment of all real and personal property taxes without penalty. However this year August 31 falls on a Sunday, and Monday September 1, is Labor Day. Therefore, beginning September 2, a penalty of 3% will be added to any unpaid balance of real or personal property taxes. In addition to the penalty, interest at the rate of ¾ % (.0075) will also be added on September 2, and at the beginning of each following month through February 2009. Thereafter, taxes are payable only to the Macomb County Treasurer. Tax bills can be paid at National City Bank and at Christian Financial Credit Union. Bank America (LaSalle Bank) no longer accepts payments.

The City offers it’s residents a monthly payment plan for taxes. You may call City Hall at (586) 757-6800 for further information.

Following are the levies (tax rates) for all the governmental entities as approved by their respective governing boards. In January 2008, the City Assessor combined the two Center Line School District codes (50010 and 50011) into one code 50010. Both the Center Line School District and the Van Dyke School District are shown. Any questions you have regarding the rates should be directed to the individual government entities.

ASSESSOR'S OFFICE

Each year the City Assessor is responsible for verifying the information on all building permits. This involves the physical inspection and measurement of the property where some type of physical change has been completed. This is an important step in the assessment process.

As a property owner, it is important for you verify your assessment records. It is important that the assessment records are accurate and that all properties are treated uniformly. If you would like to view your assessment records, please call the assessing office @ 586-757-6800, ext 268, and make an appointment to examine your assessment records.

Assessment Notices will be in the mail by March 1st. Please verify all information on the notice carefully. Before making an appointment with the Board of Review call the assessing office to discuss your concerns, this may alleviate the need for you to personally appear. The March Board of Review will be held on Monday, March 13, and Tuesday, March 14, 2006. It is imperative that you make an appointment with the Board of Review to appeal your assessment.
